Superminis have become very popular over recent years. Classified as lying between a small city car and a family saloon, they have wide appeal. Certainly there is no shortage of choice and there are some great models available. In fact there is a huge range of them.
The top five new Superminis are the VW Polo, the Fiat 500, the Hyundai 120, the Ford Fiesta and the Renault Clio. Everyone of these cars offers great value for money, superb economy and are good fun to drive. Fierce competition amongst motor manufacturers has driven the development of this range to new standards. Each model has a wide range of performance levels and options.
As an alternative to purchasing a Supermini, it pays to consider getting one on a car lease agreement. This has the advantage that there is little capital outlay required, the term can be anything between two and four years, and there are no concerns about selling the car at the end of the contract. You simply return it to the dealer and probably take out another contract for another brand new car.
Costs are very reasonable too, especially when compared with costs associated with a car loan. The reason for this is that with contract hire you pay only for the car’s depreciation over the period of hire rather than the purchase price of the car.
As an example of costs, getting a Volkswagen car lease deal under a three year contract will cost £267 a month plus a down payment of three months rental. This includes VAT, so if you are hiring one through a VAT registered business the payments are only £227 a month.
If you opted for a HYUNDAI I20 three door hatchback with a 1.2 litre engine, then over a similar three year contract the cost would be £234 a month or £182 a month through a business.
There are many additional advantages to hiring a car rather than purchasing one. You can even include maintenance in the agreements so that you know exactly what the car will cost you for the duration of the contract.
